Who are the Tigard Safe Grad Volunteers?
Tigard Safe Grads is organized and run entirely by volunteers from the Tigard community—including parents, local residents, and many Tigard High alumni. Our volunteers work together to plan and host a safe, drug- and alcohol-free celebration for graduating seniors, ensuring every student has a fun and memorable way to mark this milestone with their classmates.
Where do you get your funding?
Tigard Safe Grads is funded entirely through the generous support of our community. We receive grants from local organizations, donations from Tigard-area businesses, and contributions from community fundraisers such as Bingo Nights and Dine Out events. Additional funds come from ticket sales, the Spring Auction sponsored by the Tigard High PSO, and ongoing can and bottle collections through the Oregon BottleDrop Give program—including Blue Bags and our annual collection at the Tigard Festival of Balloons.
Is Tigard Safe Grads financially supported by Tigard High School or TTSD?
Tigard Safe Grads operates independently from Tigard High School and the Tigard-Tualatin School District. While we do not receive financial support from either, the school allows us to share information with seniors through newsletters and occasional senior assemblies. We also collaborate with other student and parent groups to spread the word through social media and community outreach. To ensure equal access for all students, we maintain a mailbox at Tigard High and provide scholarship application forms in the main office.
Where is the party held?
The Tigard Safe Grad Party takes place at a secret location that changes each year. We carefully select venues that can safely host up to 300 students and accommodate our outside vendors and activities. The location remains confidential to help ensure a secure, alcohol-free environment and to prevent uninvited guests from attending. After graduation, students are transported by bus directly from Tigard High School to the venue and returned to the school the following morning.
Who can attend the Safe Grad Party?
All Tigard High School graduating seniors are invited to attend the Safe Grad Party. To make sure every student can participate, we offer scholarships for those who need financial support. Scholarship applications are available in the Tigard High School office, and thanks to generous community donations, we’ve been able to meet every scholarship request so far.
How long has Tigard Safe Grads been around?
Tigard Safe Grads has been part of the Tigard community for more than 40 years. After a brief pause during the COVID years, we’re proud to continue this long-standing tradition and are committed to building a lasting nonprofit that will serve Tigard High School seniors for generations to come.
How can I contact the committee or get involved?
We’d love for you to join us! The Tigard Safe Grads committee meets on the first Monday of each month at Tigard Beach Hut Deli from 7:00–8:00 p.m. Come share your ideas, learn about volunteer opportunities, and help us plan a safe and memorable celebration for our seniors. You can also email us at TigardGradNight@gmail.com
What if my student has a dietary restriction or medical need?
Please indicate any dietary restrictions or medical needs on your student’s registration form. A committee member will reach out if additional information is needed to ensure your student can participate fully and safely in all activities. Our goal is for every graduate to have a great experience.
What should my student bring (or not bring)?
Students should bring a swimsuit and towel for certain activities. Cell phones and car keys will be collected and securely stored upon arrival to help students stay present and to maintain event security. All items are returned on the bus ride back to Tigard High School. In special circumstances, a board member may approve a student’s use of their phone during the event.
What if my student doesn’t want to stay all night?
The Safe Grad Party is designed as an all-night event, and student safety is our top priority. Except in cases of illness or injury, we are unable to arrange early pick-up or release. If your senior prefers not to attend an all-night celebration, that’s completely okay—participation is optional, and families can decide if the event is the right fit for their graduate. All activities are fully supervised by background-checked parent and community volunteers throughout the night to ensure every student’s safety and well-being.
